Revenue Statement on Stolen Laptops

The Office of the Revenue Commissioners can confirm that last night (27/01/2011) there was a break in at their offices on the Navan Road in Dublin. Intruders gained entry to the offices at 7.15 pm through an emergency fire door which was forced. The matter was immediately reported to An Garda Siochana.

Ten laptops, which were chained and padlocked to desks, were stolen during the break in. As a matter of policy, Revenue's laptops are encrypted using a leading brand that complies with the highest international security certifications. An Garda Síochana and Revenue Officers have reviewed camera surveillance footage and Revenue will continue to work closely with An Garda Síochana in relation to their investigation.

Revenue contacted the Office of the Data Protection Commissioners first thing this morning to report the incident and will be working closely with the Commissioner's Office in the coming days.
