Customs Seize Crystal Methamphetamine and Cash at Dublin Airport
Officers from Revenue's Customs Service in a joint operation with the Garda National Immigration Bureau at Dublin Airport today, (28/09/2011) seized approximately 2.5kgs of crystal methamphetamine, also known as 'Yaba' or 'Ice', valued at approximately €250,000.
The drugs, which were concealed in the framework of two suit cases, were discovered when officers stopped a 39 year old male who had arrived at Dublin Airport from Lesotho in Africa.
The man was handed over to Gardaí at Dublin Airport for questioning and is due to appear in court later today.
In a separate operation at Dublin airport yesterday (27/09/2011) officers seized €9,500 from a 25 year old Polish male who had arrived on a flight from Warsaw, Poland.
The cash was seized by Customs in accordance with Section 38, Criminal Justice Act 1994 as amended by Section 20, Proceeds of Crime (Amendment) Act 2005.
Officers were granted a three-month detention order this morning (28/09/2011) by Judge Brian Smyth in the Dublin Criminal Court to carry out further investigations.
Both seizures were a result of routine profiling by Customs officers.
