Customs Seize Cigarettes at Dublin Airport
In an intelligence led operation, Officers from Revenue's Customs Service today, (29/12/11) seized 26,540 cigarettes at Dublin Airport with an estimated retail value of €11,500 and a potential loss to the exchequer of approximately €10,000.
Two Lithuanians and one Romanian , all in their twenties and believed to be operating as part of an Eastern European cigarette smuggling gang, were stopped and searched by officers having arrived on a flight from Zurich in Switzerland.
The 'L&M' and 'Marlboro' branded cigarettes were discovered in three suitcases and had been bought in Russia.
Files are being prepared for the DPP.
