Customs Seize Cigarettes

Officers from Revenue's Customs Service based at Dublin Port, today (30.08.2011), seized 410,000 cigarettes with a retail value of €175,000 and a potential loss to the exchequer of €137,000.

The 'Regal' brand cigarettes were seized when officers detained a Northern Ireland registered commercial vehicle.

This latest seizure brings the total number of cigarettes seized to date this year to approximately 77.5m, with a potential retail value of €32.5m.

Investigations are ongoing both nationally and internationally.
