Summary

The offences before the Court were:

Evasion of excise duty

Following the seizure of alcohol with a total value of €7,823.46 at Rosslare Harbour on 22nd October 2003 both Terence Cooke and James Shannon were charged with the evasion of excise duty on 553.5 litres of wine, 547.2 litres of beer and 27.55 litres of spirits.

Outcome

In the Wexford Circuit Court on Thursday 13th October 2005 the jury returned a guilty verdict on count 1, evasion of excise duty.

Judge O'Shea fined both Terence Cooke and James Shannon €11,735.19 each eighteen months to pay, with the proviso that €5,800 be paid within nine months.
