On 14 June 2016 Monaghan Circuit Criminal Court ordered the forfeiture to the Exchequer of cash amounting to €10,777.39 pursuant to Section 39 of the Criminal Justice Act 1994, as amended by Section 21 of the Proceeds of Crime (Amendment) Act 2005, as the Court was satisfied that the cash represented the proceeds of crime, or was intended for use in connection with criminal conduct.
On 16 September 2013 Revenue Enforcement Officers seized and detained the cash from Columba Mackle during a search of premises at Killyneill, Silverstream, Co. Monaghan.
Following an investigation by Revenue's Investigations and Prosecutions Division, a file on the matter was referred to the Director of Public Prosecutions who ordered the forfeiture proceedings.
Mr Mackle was represented in Court but did not oppose the forfeiture application.
