Man arrested at Dublin Airport for cigarette smuggling

In an anti-cigarette smuggling operation officers from Revenue's Customs Service at Dublin Airport, yesterday evening (25/04/12), seized 11,200 cigarettes, with an estimated retail value of €5,213 and a potential loss to the Exchequer of €4,417.

The 'L&M' brand cigarettes were discovered in the suitcase of a 28 year old Romanian man, who had arrived on a flight from Kiev, having previously travelled from Moldova.

He was arrested and appeared before Judge Denis McLoughlin in Dublin District Court, this morning where he was remanded in custody for a week. He will appear again before Cloverhill District Court next Thursday, 3rd May.

Earlier today, in excess of 60,000 cigarettes were seized from 3 passengers who had arrived on a flight from London.
