Customs seize cigarettes at Dublin Airport

In an anti-cigarette smuggling operation, officers from Revenue's Customs Service on Monday evening (30/04/12) seized 11,600 cigarettes with an estimated retail value of €5399 and a potential loss to the Exchequer of €4575.

The seizure was made when Officers intercepted a 69 year old Lithuanian woman, who had arrived on a flight from Copenhagen. The "Bond" brand cigarettes were discovered in her suitcase.

She was arrested and appeared before Judge Denis McLoughlin in the Criminal Courts of Justice yesterday (01/05/12) where a custodial sentence of four months was imposed.
