Revenue seizes cigarettes at Rosslare Europort and Dublin Airport
As a result of routine profiling, Revenue’s Customs Officers at Rosslare Europort today (4/11/2013) seized 94,120 cigarettes with a retail value of €44,707 and a potential loss to the Exchequer of €35,013.
The 'West', 'Denim', 'Winston' and 'Marlboro' brand cigarettes were discovered in an Irish registered van which had disembarked the ferry from Cherbourg, France.
A 43 year-old male Lithuanian national was released without charge and a file is being prepared for the DPP.
Following the seizure of 31,000 cigarettes by officers from Revenue’s Customs Service at Dublin Airport last Saturday (02/11/13) a 28 year old man with a UK passport was arrested and appeared today, (04/11/13), before Judge Patricia McNamara at the Criminal Courts of Justice.
He was remanded in custody to appear at Cloverhill District Court on Wednesday (06/11/13).
The "Esse" brand cigarettes with a retail value of €14,725 and a potential loss to the Exchequer of €12,868 were seized when the man arrived at Dublin Airport having travelled from Erbil in Kurdistan.
