Revenue seizes cigarettes at Dublin Airport
Officers from Revenue's Customs Service, assisted by tobacco detection dog 'Frankie', yesterday (07/10/2013) seized 52,400 cigarettes and arrested two people for excise offences at Dublin Airport. The 'NZ Gold' and 'Kent' brand cigarettes have a retail value of €25,000 and a potential loss to the Exchequer of €21,500.
Two female Lithuanian nationals, aged 25 and 26 were found to be in possession of 17,600 and 17,800 cigarettes, respectively, when officers searched their baggage. 17,000 cigarettes were seized from 5 other passengers that had arrived in on the flight from Kaunas, Lithuania.
The two women appeared before Judge Patricia McNamara today (08/10/2013) in the Courts of Criminal Justice where they were remanded in custody until Friday 11th October 2013 for directions from the DPP.
