Revenue seizes cigarettes in Dublin
In an intelligence-led operation today (10/10/13), officers from Revenue's Customs Service, acting under warrant and in co-operation with An Garda Síochana, seized 22.8kg of tobacco and 13,200 cigarettes with an estimated retail value of €16,263 and a potential loss to the Exchequer of €12,389.
The "Mayfair", "Palace" brand cigarettes and "Samson" tobacco were discovered during the course of a search at a premises in Dublin’s north inner city and in a vehicle during a related follow-up search. Investigations in relation to the seizure are continuing.
This seizure is part of Revenue's ongoing operations targeting the supply and sale of illegal cigarettes in the shadow economy.
