Headline Results 2014
The Revenue Commissioners today (12/01/2015) published preliminary results for 2014. The results include data on Exchequer tax receipts, rates of timely compliance including for Local Property Tax, numbers of contacts from customers handled during the year and tax, interest and penalties collected from compliance interventions and enforcement activity undertaken.
Commenting on the preliminary results, Commissioner Niall Cody said "In 2014, Revenue collected some €41.28 billion. This includes €452 million Local Property Tax for 2014 and €39 million for 2015. There is a strong compliance culture among our customers as evidenced by a 95% compliance rate for Local Property Tax and timely filing and payment compliance rates of 99% for our largest and 97% for medium sized business cases. We continue to encourage anyone experiencing difficulty in paying their taxes to send in their returns and initiate early and meaningful engagement with us so that we can put phased payment arrangements in place for viable businesses."
A strong underpinning of Revenue's support for voluntary compliance is its confrontation of non-compliance on a risk priority basis. "Our headline results published today show that we are very active in that regard. We will continue to maximise the use of data and the deployment of analytics and risk assessment approaches to identify non-compliance and to target our resources to tackle this risk" said Commissioner Cody.
The Commissioner commented that the data indicates improved economic activity. "There is evidence of increased customer numbers across all taxes. In addition uptake of the Home Renovation Incentive, which was introduced to support fully tax compliant builders and to move building activity out of the shadow economy and into the legitimate economy, is an encouraging indicator of improving levels of activity and compliance within the construction sector."
Finally, for those who have not already paid or made arrangements to pay their LPT for 2015, Commissioner Cody reminded householders of the importance of paying it now.
