Revenue seizes cash and cigarettes at Dublin Airport

As a result of routine profiling, Revenue seized €261,000 cash in Dublin Airport today (16/09/15).

The cash was detained under the Proceeds of Crime legislation from four Irish resident individuals (two female, two male) who arrived into Dublin Airport from the United Arab Emirates.

Revenue was granted a three-month detention order in respect of the cash this afternoon (16/09/15) by Judge Halpin in the Criminal Courts of Justice in order to carry out further investigations.

In a separate operation on Monday night (14/09/15), Revenue seized 17,400 cigarettes from a Moldovan male who arrived into Dublin Airport from Moldova via Munich. The Marlboro Gold and L&M brand cigarettes had an estimated retail value of over €8,800*.

He appeared in the Criminal Courts of Justice yesterday (15/09/15) and was remanded in custody to appear again tomorrow morning (17/09/15).

* The cigarettes represent a potential loss to the Exchequer of over €7,500. This is assuming that it would have displaced the equivalent full tax paid quantity of the cigarettes and tobacco.
