Revenue seizes 8 million cigarettes in Dublin

As a result of an intelligence-led operation last weekend, officers from Revenue’s Customs Service seized 8 million cigarettes with a retail value of over €4m at Dublin Port.

Officers stopped a Latvian registered truck and trailer disembarking a ship in Dublin Port which had sailed from Rotterdam and detection dog ‘Casey’ uncovered the elaborate concealment of cigarettes hidden within the glazing spaces of window frames.

The ‘Minsk Capital’, ‘NZ Gold’ and ‘Pect’ brand cigarettes are believed to have originated in Belarus.

Investigations are continuing.

These seizures are part of Revenue's on going operations targeting the supply and sale of illegal cigarettes, tobacco and alcohol in the shadow economy. If businesses or members of the public have any information regarding the smuggling or sale of illegal cigarettes or tobacco, they can contact Revenue in confidence on free phone number 1800 295 295.
