Summary

John Hughes with an address at 33 Boulevard de Cimiez, Residence Les Fontaines, 06000 Nice (and formerly of 8 Temple Crescent, Blackrock, Co. Dublin) pleaded guilty to 4 sample counts in respect of non-remission of VAT due and 2 sample counts in respect of non-filing of VAT returns

• Failure without reasonable excuse to furnish a VAT Return in respect of the periods Jul / Aug 2003 – Sep / Oct 2005 and Jan / Feb 2006 (2 counts);
• Failure to remit Value Added Tax in respect of the periods Jul / Aug 2003 – Sep / Oct 2005 and Jan / Feb 2006 (4 counts);

The above being offences under Section 1078 of the Taxes Consolidation Act 1997.

Outcome

On the 22nd March 2012 at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, Judge Martin Nolan imposed a sentence of four years in respect of all the counts with no part suspended.
