Summary
Mr. Darren Nolan, with an address at 6 Newvale Cresent, Shankill, Co. Dublin pleaded guilty to two counts of the following offences under Section 119(2) Finance Act, 2001, as amended:
- Evasion of a duty of excise on excisable products to wit, 14.50 Kgs of fine cut tobacco for the rolling of cigarettes and 800 cigarettes upon which a duty of excise was for the time being payable with intend to defraud either directly or indirectly the State of such duty.
- Evasion of a duty of excise on excisable products to wit, 12.45 Kgs of fine cut tobacco for the rolling of cigarettes upon which a duty of excise was for the time being payable with intend to defraud either directly or indirectly the State of such duty.
Outcome
On 28th June 2017, at Circuit Court No. 5, Criminal Courts of Justice, Dublin, Judge O’Connor sentenced Mr. Nolan to 18 months imprisonment, on each count, suspended on condition of the accused entering into his own Bond to keep the peace and be of good behaviour, and paying the sum of €2,000 to the Exchequer by way of compensation.
