What is the Automated Import System (AIS)?

What has not changed under AIS?

Imports

Entry Summary Declaration (ENS)

Carriers must provide Revenue with advance information for safety and security risk analysis. This is done by lodging an ENS for goods being brought into the European Union (EU). This process will continue to be managed by the Import Control System 2 (ICS2).

Arrivals notification

The electronic arrivals system records the scheduled and real-time arrival information for all aircraft and ships arriving in Ireland. This information is received from:

  • the Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) for air traffic
  • and
  • Safe Seas Ireland for sea traffic.

The arrivals system interfaces with the AIS and notifies it of the Actual Time of Arrival (ATA) of aircraft and ships. Traders should provide the Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA) in their declarations.

Exports

Exports are managed through the Automated Export System (AES).

If you import and export goods from, and to, the EU, you must use:

  • the AIS for your import declarations
  • and
  • the AES for your export declarations.
