Summary   

Mr. Abdulgafar Adebayo Shaaba, with an address at 371 Casement Road, Finglas, Dublin 11 pleaded guilty to offences, contrary to Section 119(2) of the Finance Act, 2001, as amended:

  • Were concerned in the evasion of a duty of excise on excisable products to wit, 39,800 cigarettes with intent to defraud either directly or indirectly the State of such duty

Outcome 

On 16 May 2022, at Cork Circuit Criminal Court, Judge Hayes sentenced Mr Shaaba to be imprisoned for a period of 18 months, such sentence suspended in full, in open Court, acknowledging himself bound to the people of Ireland in the sum of €100, the conditions being that he will keep the peace and be of good behaviour towards all the people of Ireland for a period of 18 months from this date and further that he will come up if called on to do so to serve the sentence imposed, but suspended on him entering into this recognisance.  Accused having acknowledged himself so bound was discharged.
