Local Property Tax 2014

Revenue is currently writing to most residential property owners* about how they want to pay their 2014 Local Property Tax (LPT) – this is now a normal feature of the LPT process.

If you paid your LPT in 2013 in one lump sum (by single debit authority, debit/credit card, cheque/postal order or cash) or made regular payments in cash, you will receive a letter from Revenue.

All you need to do is decide how you want to pay for 2014, fill in the payment instruction either online or in paper and send it to Revenue by the deadline. You don’t need to value your property.

In order to facilitate phased payments methods throughout 2014, you need to confirm your payment method by 27 November if doing so online or by 7 November if doing so by paper.

There is a range of different payment methods from which you can choose.

  • You can choose to spread your payments evenly throughout 2014 by way of direct debit or deduction from salary, pension or Government payment;
  • You can spread your payments by making regular payments throughout 2014 at service providers;
  • You can pay in full by Single Debit Authority (like an electronic cheque) which will be debited by Revenue on 21 March 2014;
  • If you pay now by debit/credit card, postal order or cheque it will be deducted immediately. This is the nature of the banking and credit card systems.

Revenue will not be writing to you if you paid your 2013 LPT by phased payment method (direct debit or deduction at source from your salary, occupational pension or certain Government payments). Your phased payment method will continue to apply in 2014 and you don’t need to contact Revenue.

However, if you wish to change your payment method, you can do so online on www.revenue.ie. If you need assistance, you can contact the LPT helpline on 1890 200 255.

Similarly, Revenue will not be writing to you if you claimed a full deferral or were exempt as the deferral or exemption carries forward to 2014.

Choose your payment method now for 2014 - the deadline for paper payment instructions is 7 November 2013 and 27 November 2013 for online payment instructions. The quickest and easiest way to choose your payment method is online at Payment Options.

[Ends 22/10/13]
