Revenue seizes 20,000 cigarettes at Dublin Airport

Last weekend, as a result of routine profiling, Revenue officers at Dublin Airport seized over 20,000 cigarettes worth €11,000, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of almost €8,900.

Yesterday (02/07/17), officers seized over 10,000 cigarettes, branded ‘Kent’ and ‘Marlboro’, when they searched the baggage of a 30 year old Romanian man. The man appeared in the Dublin District Court earlier today (03/07/17) where he was remanded in custody to Cloverhill until Wednesday (05/07/17), when he will appear again.

On Friday night (30/06/17), officers seized a further 10,000 ‘L&M Blue’ cigarettes from a 26 year old Latvian man who had arrived on a flight from Venice. The man appeared in the District Court before Judge Walsh on Saturday (01/07/17) where he received a 3 month suspended jail sentence and a €2,500 fine.
