Revenue seize 12,000 cigarettes in North County Dublin

Yesterday (05/03/2018), Revenue officers seized 12,000 unstamped cigarettes when they carried out a search, under warrant, of a private residence in North County Dublin.

The contraband cigarettes, branded ‘Marlboro Gold’, originated in the Ukraine and have an estimated retail value of over €6,400, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of more than €5,600. A Latvian man in his late twenties was questioned by Revenue officers and investigations are ongoing with a view to prosecution.

This operation is part of Revenue's ongoing operations targeting the supply and sale of illegal alcohol and tobacco products in the shadow economy. The majority of people pay the right amount of tax and duty. If businesses or members of the public have any information about smuggling or the sale of illegal tobacco products, they can contact Revenue in confidence on free phone number 1800 295 295.
