Revenue seize cigarettes worth €25,000 at Dublin Airport

Over the last week, Revenue officers at Dublin Airport seized a total of 37,400 cigarettes with a combined retail value of approximately €25,000, representing a loss to the exchequer of €19,800. All seizures were made as a result of routine profiling. The details are as follows:

• 13,000 cigarettes branded ‘Marlboro Touch’ and ‘Dunhill’ were seized yesterday (23/07/20) when Revenue officers stopped and searched the checked baggage of a female passenger who had disembarked a flight from Sofia, Bulgaria.
• 11,800 cigarettes and 500g of tobacco were seized on Wednesday (22/07/20) when Revenue officers stopped and searched the checked baggage of a female passenger who had disembarked a flight from Dalman, Turkey. The smuggled cigarettes were branded ‘L&M Red’, ‘L&M Blue’ and the tobacco branded ‘Amber Leaf’.
• 12,600 cigarettes branded ‘Lucky Strike’, ‘Rothmans’ and ‘Vogue’ were seized Last Saturday (18/07/20) when Revenue officers, with the assistance of detector dog Obi, searched the baggage of two male passengers who had arrived from Malaga, Spain.

Investigations are ongoing into relation to all seizures.
