Revenue seize drugs at Dublin Port and chewing tobacco at Dublin Airport
On Saturday (26/11/2022), as part of routine operations, Revenue Officers seized approximately 4.4kgs of herbal cannabis worth €88,000 at Dublin Port. The drugs were discovered when an Irish registered car that had arrived from Holyhead was stopped and searched. Two men in their 20s were arrested by An Garda Síochána and detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996 at Store Street Garda Station.
Separately on 18/11/2022, as part of routine operations, Revenue officers seized 150kgs of chewing tobacco with an estimated value of €82,500, at Dublin Airport. The chewing tobacco, branded ‘Makla’, was discovered with the assistance of detector dog Gus, concealed in an air cargo consignment that originated in Belgium destined for an address in Dublin’s South City area.
Investigations are ongoing in both cases.
