Revenue seize over four million cigarettes at Dublin Port

On Monday 09/03/2026, Revenue officers seized approximately 4.1 million cigarettes at Dublin Port.

The seizure was made following routine risk profiling, with the assistance of detector dog Milo and the use of Revenue’s mobile X-ray scanner. The cigarettes were discovered in a trailer that had arrived from Rotterdam.

The smuggled cigarettes branded ‘Richmond King Size and Lambert & Butler Original’, have an estimated value of over €3.7 million, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of over €2.9 million.

Investigations are ongoing.

This was the third significant cigarette seizure at Dublin Port over a period of seven days, with over 22 million cigarettes seized in separate operations.

These seizures are part of Revenue’s ongoing operations targeting the shadow economy and the supply and sale of illegal tobacco products. If businesses or members of the public have any information regarding smuggling, they can contact Revenue in confidence on the freephone number 1800 295 295.
