Inspecting the CRBOT

Overview

This section explains how the Central Register of Beneficial Ownership of Trusts (CRBOT) will be used and who can access the information it contains.

Since the 24 October 2021 the CRBOT is available for inspection to:

  • certain public bodies
  • relevant competent authorities
  • designated persons
  • and
  • members of the public with a legitimate interest.

The information will be used to improve transparency in Ireland and the European Union (EU) by making it clear who owns and controls Irish trusts.

The type of access will depend on the type of access request and whether the applicant can establish that they have a right of access.

Restricted access relates to partial access to beneficial ownership information and unrestricted access relates to full access to beneficial ownership information.
