Proportionate payment of VRT on leased vehicles

Declaration and registration

When the application process is complete the system will require you to sign and submit a declaration. If approved your successful application will be linked to your vehicles VIN. The VIN will be required when you go to register the vehicle in the National Car Testing Centre.

The application is subject to a non-refundable administration charge of €100 payable at the time of registration.  This applies regardless of whether the application is successful or not.

The normal requirements for vehicle registration (e.g. documents required to be submitted) will continue to apply at the vehicle registration stage.  Once the vehicle is presented for registration at the NCTS centre, the VIN number will be checked for an approved application.  If an approved application is linked to the VIN the proportionate VRT payable will be displayed to the NCTS operator.

Please note that it is only at this stage that the proportionate payment of the VRT will be finally calculated.   It will not be possible to assess in advance the potential VRT liability due.
