Irish Whiskey and Irish Poteen Geographical Indications (GI) Verification Scheme

Overview

There is a geographical indications scheme in place for Irish Whiskey and Irish Poteen. This means that if you wish to label or market your products as Irish Whiskey or Irish Poteen, you must follow certain requirements. These requirements are set out in the technical file written by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM).

Before you begin operations, you must apply to your Revenue office. We will verify that the premises where you will manufacture or process your products are in line with the requirements in the technical file.
