Revenue seize 300,000 cigarettes at Dublin Airport
Over the course of last week, as a result of routine profiling, Revenue officers seized 300,000 cigarettes at Dublin Airport, with an estimated retail value of €210,000, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of €167,000.
The smuggled cigarettes branded ‘B&H’, ‘Kent’ and ‘NZ Gold’ were discovered when Revenue Officers, with the assistance of detector dogs Maggie and Wilson, stopped and searched the checked baggage of a number of passengers who had disembarked flights from Amsterdam and Athens.
Three arrests were made under Section 139 of the Finance Act 2001.
Investigations are ongoing.
