Revenue seize cigarettes and tobacco worth over €16,100 in Counties Mayo and Sligo

On Tuesday (08/03/2022), as part of an intelligence led operation, Revenue officers seized 11,240 unstamped cigarettes and 450g of ‘roll your own’ tobacco, with an estimated retail value of more than €8,700, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of approximately €6,800.

The illegal cigarettes, branded ‘Marlboro Reds’ and ‘Richmond’, and tobacco branded ‘Amber Leaf,’ were discovered during a search, under warrant, of a property in the Ballina area of County Mayo.  An Irish woman in her 50s was questioned in relation to this seizure.

In a separate operation, also on Tuesday (08/03/2022), Revenue officers seized 10,400 cigarettes following a search, under warrant, of a property in the Enniscrone area of County Sligo.

The unstamped cigarettes branded ‘Marlboro’, have an estimated retail value of more than €7,400, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of approximately €6,000. An Irish woman was questioned in relation to this seizure. Investigations are ongoing.
