Revenue seize herbal cannabis worth €2 million at Dublin Port
Last Friday (25/08/2023), as a result of an intelligence-led operation and with the assistance of Revenue’s mobile x-ray scanner and detector dog Alfie, Revenue officers seized 100 kgs of herbal cannabis with an estimated value of €2 million at Dublin Port. The seizure was made as a result of a joint operation conducted by Revenue’s Customs Service and the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB).
The illicit drugs were discovered when Revenue officers stopped and searched an Irish-registered accompanied freight unit that had disembarked a ferry from Cherbourg, France. A man in his 60s was arrested by An Garda Síochána and is currently detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996 at a Garda Station in Dublin. Investigations are ongoing.
This seizure is part of Revenue’s ongoing joint investigations targeting organised crime groups and the importation, sale and supply of illegal drugs. If businesses, or members of the public, have any information regarding drug smuggling, they can contact Revenue in confidence on phone number 1800 295 295.
