Revenue seize herbal cannabis worth over €971,000 in Cavan and West Dublin

 

 

Yesterday (27/11/2023), as part of an intelligence-led operation, Revenue officers seized approximately 19.1kgs of herbal cannabis with an estimated value of €382,000 in Cavan.

This seizure was made as a result of a joint operation conducted by Revenue’s Customs Service, the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB) and the Cavan Divisional Detective Unit. One male in his 30s was arrested by An Garda Síochána and is currently detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996 at a Garda Station in the Cavan area. Investigations are ongoing.

Separately, on Thursday (23/11/2023) and as part of an intelligence-led operation, Revenue officers seized approximately 29.4kgs of herbal cannabis with an estimated value of €589,200 in West Dublin. The seizure was made as a result of a joint operation conducted by Revenue’s Customs Service, the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB) and the Clondalkin District Drugs Unit.

A man in his 40s was arrested by An Garda Síochána, he was detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996 at a Garda Station in Dublin and was later charged with offences under the Misuse of Drugs Act. He later appeared before the Criminal Courts of Justice on 25 November 2023. Investigations are ongoing.

These seizures are part of Revenue’s ongoing joint investigations targeting organised crime groups and the importation, sale and supply of illegal drugs.
