Revenue seize contraband worth almost €200,000 in various operations
Over the week commencing 12/05/2025, Revenue officers seized contraband with an estimated value of almost €200,000 in various operations in Dublin, the Midlands, Rosslare Europort and Waterford.
The detections were made as a result of risk profiling and intelligence led operations, and included the following:
- Almost 6kg of herbal cannabis, with an estimated value of over €110,000
- Assorted drugs, with an estimated value of almost €7,500
- Cash to the value of €7,935
- 157 counterfeit items, with an estimated value of €51,700.
The herbal cannabis and various illicit drugs were discovered, with the assistance of detector dogs Sam, Ciara and Enzo, whilst Revenue officers were examining parcels at premises in Dublin and the Midlands. The parcels originated from the UK, the US, Canda, Poland, Thailand and France, and were destined for addresses nationwide. 6 weapons were also seized in the Midlands.
The counterfeit goods were seized as they were confirmed by the Rights Holder to have infringed on Intellectual Property Rights.
Separately, tobacco and alcohol products with an estimated value of over €14,000, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of over €10,000 were seized in various operations in the Midlands, Rosslare Europort, and Waterford.
The cash was seized during a search in Rosslare Europort. On Wednesday, 14/05/2025, Revenue officers were granted a 3 month detention order in respect of this cash by Judge John Cheatle at Gorey District Court.
Investigations into all seizures are ongoing.
