Revenue seized contraband worth almost €255,000 in Dublin, the Midlands and Rosslare
Over the week commencing 26/05/2025, Revenue officers seized contraband with an estimated value of almost €255,000 in various operations in Dublin, the Midlands, and Rosslare Europort.
The detections were made as a result of risk profiling and intelligence led operations, and included the following:
- almost 5.8kg of herbal cannabis, with an estimated value of almost €110,000.
- 3,250 assorted tablets with an estimated value of almost €6,500.
- various other illicit drugs, with an estimated value of over €3,000.
- tobacco products with an estimated value of almost €75,000.
- 342 counterfeit items, with an estimated value of over €59,000.
The herbal cannabis and other illicit drugs were discovered whilst Revenue officers were examining parcels, with the assistance of detector dogs Ciara, Enzo and Sam, at premises in Dublin and the Midlands. The parcels originated from USA, the UK, India, Canada, France, Thailand, and the Netherlands, and were destined for addresses nationwide.
Over 82,000 cigarettes, with a value of almost €74,000 and representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of €58,400, and 1.25kg of rolling tobacco, with a value of €1,100 and representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of €828, were seized in Dublin, the Midlands and Rosslare Europort. Additionally, a small amount of alcohol with a value of almost €1,345, representing a loss to the exchequer of over €635 was seized.
The counterfeit goods were seized as they were confirmed by the Rights Holder to have infringed on Intellectual Property Rights.
Investigations into all seizures are ongoing.
