Revenue seize contraband worth over €315,400 in various operations
Over the week commencing 20/10/2025, Revenue officers seized contraband with an estimated value of over €314,400 in various operations in Dublin, the Midlands, Kilkenny and Rosslare Europort. The detections were made as a result of risk profiling and intelligence led operations, and included the following:
- 7.45kg of herbal cannabis, with an estimated value of almost €150,000.
- Synthetic cannabinoids, with an estimated value of over €35,750.
- 2,940 assorted tablets, with an estimated value of €5,840.
- Various other illicit drugs, with an estimated value of over €1,500.
- Tobacco products, with an estimated value of almost €23,900, and representing a potential loss to the exchequer of almost €18,750.
- Over 885 litres of alcohol with an estimated value of over €12,760, representing a potential loss to the exchequer of over €8,14o.
- 144 counterfeit items with an estimated value of almost €80,200.
The herbal cannabis and illicit drug seizures were made as a result of risk profiling and with the assistance of detector dogs Ciara and Sam. The parcels originated from the USA, the UK, India, Thailand and Canada, and were destined for various addresses nationwide.
The counterfeit goods were seized as they were confirmed by the Rights Holder to have infringed on Intellectual Property Rights. Sixteen weapons and €5,320 and £165 (sterling) in cash were also seized. Regarding the cash, at a sitting of Wexford District Court, Judge John Cheatle granted an application for a 3-month detention order.
Investigations into all seizures are ongoing.
