Revenue seize over nine million cigarettes at Dublin Port

On Saturday, 07/03/2026, Revenue officers seized approximately 9.3 million cigarettes at Dublin Port. The seizure was made as result of risk profiling and the use of Revenue’s Z backscatter van. The cigarettes were discovered in a trailer that had arrived from Cherbourg, France.

The smuggled cigarettes, branded ‘Marlboro Gold’ and ‘Lambert & Butler Original Silver’ have an estimated value of over €8.8 million, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of almost €7 million.

Investigations are ongoing.

This was the second significant cigarette seizure of the week at Dublin Port following a discovery of approximately nine million cigarettes on 03/03/2026.

These seizures are part of Revenue’s ongoing operations targeting the shadow economy and the supply and sale of illegal tobacco products. If businesses, or members of the public, have any information regarding smuggling, they can contact Revenue in confidence at the freephone number 1800 295 295.
