Revenue seize contraband worth over €352,000 in various operations

Over the week commencing 30/03/2026, Revenue officers seized contraband with an estimated value of over €352,000 in various operations in Dublin, the Midlands, and Rosslare Europort. The detections were made as a result of risk profiling and intelligence led operations, and included the following:

  • 150 counterfeit items, with an estimated value of over €164,300.
  • 7.3 kg of herbal cannabis, with an estimated value of over €145,200.
  • Tobacco products, with an estimated value of over €33,400, and representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of over €26,200.
  • 528 g of cannabis resin, with an estimated value of over €3,170.
  • Various other illicit drugs, with an estimated value of over €4,300.

The herbal cannabis and illicit drugs seizures were made as a result of risk profiling with the assistance of detector dogs Ciara and Sam. The parcels originated from the United States, New Zealand, Canada, Thailand and Germany, and were destined for various addresses nationwide.

Included in the seized tobacco were 25,580 cigarettes at Dublin Airport on 05/04/2026. The cigarettes have an estimated value of €23,700, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of €18,900. The cigarettes were discovered within the baggage of a man, aged in his 40s, who had disembarked a flight originating from Germany.   

The counterfeit goods were seized as they were confirmed by the Rights Holder to have infringed on Intellectual Property Rights. Sixteen weapons accessories were also seized.

Investigations into all seizures are ongoing.
