Summary
Previously on 17 February 2026, at Wicklow Circuit Court, Bashir Koujak of 11 The Park, Heatherside, Arklow, County Wicklow pleaded guilty to the following offence:
- The evasion of a duty of excise on excisable products, to wit, 7,420 cigarettes, 12.12 kilos of fine cut tobacco for the rolling of cigarettes, and 154.27 kilos of shisha tobacco, in respect of which a duty of excise was for the time being payable, with intent to defraud either directly or indirectly the State of such duty, contrary to section 119 (2) and (3) of the Finance Act, 2001, as amended. The estimated value of the goods concerned is €22,503.40
Outcome
On 28 April 2026, Judge Ni Chulachain imposed a one-year sentence, suspended in full.
